present

The 4th Annual Congregational Climate Day of Learning

Sunday, April 28th
9:00 AM to 11:30 AM

This event is geared towards teens and adults. PreK—5th Grades will celebrate the same morning with their own engaging environmentalist Jewish programming.

This year's guest speaker, Ellen Marcus, will share her involvement in the Montgomery County Weed Warrior program & the many ways people of all ages can get involved in strengthening and supporting our local ecosystem. We'll learn a bit about non-native, invasive, and native species and the ways in which they help or harm the ecosystem.

Following the presentation, Ellen will lead participants in an Ecology Rescue - walking around Temple Shalom property and removing invasive plants. If you plan on participating in the Ecology Rescue, please wear or bring the following materials: Gloves, gardening tools, closed toed shoes, long sleeves / long pants/jeans.

Come prepared with questions!

About our Guest Speaker:
Ellen Marcus developed a passion for the health of local ecosystems when she moved to Takoma Park with her family in 2018.  Soon after, she began working towards her certification to become a Weed Warrior with Montgomery County Parks, but then the pandemic hit, and she had to wait until in-person training opened up again.  She became a certified Weed Warrior in 2020 and then last year, became a Weed Warrior supervisor and now volunteers to help train people to become Weed Warriors.  Outside of her volunteerism, she spends most of her days working in illustration/design, and on home repair.  She is a mom of a 3rd grader at Temple Shalom and enjoys time with her family: daughter, husband, and 2 cats.
